Who we are

Net Energy was founded with the mission to create powerful returns and make a massive impact on the climate.

A Note From Our Founder

As a Colorado native, I grew up spending most of my time outside, closely connected to nature. I’ve always been aware of the negative impacts we’re having on the planet, and I’ve always believed that entrepreneurship and innovation can help us overcome any challenges we face.

  • I started my former company, Notion, to help people protect their homes and families. During that journey I became acutely aware of the opportunities and difficulties of deploying new technology into real estate through partnerships with the largest insurers in the world. I also had a front row seat to witness how homes operated, especially when it came to their use of electricity, gas and water. And it was terrible – 28% of emissions in the U.S. are from operating buildings!

When Notion was acquired by Comcast in early 2020, I knew I had to do something about the climate crisis. I joined OnDeck’s Climate Tech program to learn about amazing new ideas and to connect with the best founders and investors in the space. I also had a “give first” network stemming from my time at Techstars with Notion and as a mentor over the years. Little did I know, one of those experienced founders was having the same thoughts I had about the climate and the same desire to make a massive difference for our generation and for our kids.

I met Ryan Boykin, Co-Founder of Atlas Real Estate, in 2018 as fellow CEOs in the Denver-area. We kept in touch and found a spark when we started talking about the climate and how businesses that have meaningful missions can truly become massive.

    The rest is history.

I combined my experience of deploying tech through unique partnerships, financing options and data analytics with Ryan’s years of real estate and investing experience to launch Net Energy in 2022. Atlas was our first partner. A real estate, technology, financial and climate impact match made in heaven.

    — Brett Jurgens, Founder & CEO

Brett Jurgens

Founder & CEO

Brett’s roots are in finance and real estate, but he found his passion when branching out into the worlds of climate and technology. Brett was most recently the founder and CEO of Notion, a home protection platform acquired by Comcast in 2020. He then spent time as a Climate Tech Fellow at OnDeck, setting the foundation for Net Energy. Brett also serves as a TechStars Mentor giving back to the startup community that’s supported him so graciously along his journey.

Energy Boost: Outside the office, this Colorado native can be found snowboarding, biking and traveling with his wife and kids.

Power Move: Brett was a back-to-back world Yo-Yo champion as a kid in 4th and 5th grade. He's been chasing that high ever since.

Jonathan Crimins

Head of Growth

Jonathan’s impressive technical and product skillset is why we hand selected him to be Head of Growth. He brings an engineering brain with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Bucknell University, paired with a deep connection to the Net Energy mission. Jonathan worked in product development at Google, and he was the head of Energy & Enterprise Programs at a little company Google acquired called Nest. Ask him about his time at Lockheed Martin and Guild Education if you want to know a little more about why we jumped at the chance to bring Jonathan onto our team.

Energy Boost: Jonathan is a Boston-area native who is putting down Colorado roots biking, hiking and skiing with his wife and daughter. He got his M.B.A. at Duke, so naturally he's a Duke basketball superfan.

Power Move: Jonathan has traveled to six of the seven continents, and he once stood at the top of a 20k-foot volcano in Peru.

Dan Belwood

Head of Software & Data

Innovation is Dan's middle name. Actually it's Burke, but he should probably change it because he's the brains behind our tech operations. We scooped up this former Cisco principal engineer and Salesforce principal architect to handle our entire tech stack and process automation. Given his background as a senior technical leader across a broad set of industries, we put Dan in charge of everything from data automation and engineering to property evaluation, modeling, solar system sizing and billing orchestration.

Energy Boost: This Chicogoan was a brainiac in physics at DePaul University, and he recently transplanted to Colorado with his dog, Rowdy.

Power Move: Dan is the world's most devoted Tottenham Hotspur fan. So, if you want to talk football with him (the real kind), make sure you're ready to do it with a British accent.

Alejandra Montano

Operations Management

If organization was an Olympic sport, Alejandra would have the gold and the silver. This Certified PMP is top of the podium with a B.A. in Urban & Regional Planning from Florida State University. She's been a PM for Patriot Holdings and Kolbe Gallery Seattle, and as Director of Impact at New Earth Residential, she got an up-close view of what community-focused property management should look like.

Energy Boost: Alejandra went from her home in Colombia to stops in Florida, Seattle and Las Vegas before landing here in Colorado. She gets her boost from finding new restaurants with unique selections, going to shows, hiking and camping. But nothing boosts her quite like spending time with her pups, Ana and Shuri.

Power Move: She once backpacked around Colombia for four months, stopping to live the beach life in the beautiful tiki hut hostels of Palomino. 10/10 would recommend.
